MAYA Jama has hit back at people who criticised her low-cut dresses on her BBC show and says she won’t cover up after “putting on weight”.
The 26-year-old presenter defended her revealing outfits insisting that people are only “insulted” by her outfits now as she has a “fuller figure”.
The TV star said that she will continue to “dress how she wants, no matter what size she is” after she received backlash over her revealing outfits on BBC1 series Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer.
The TV beauty is clearly not worried about a little attention – she wore a series of sexy outfits including a plunging floral purple dress, a black figure-hugging corset style crop top and even ditched the bra when she appeared the hit show.
She told The Mail: “I’ve always worn the same thing but when I was slimmer nobody commented on it and as soon as you have got a fuller figure people are shocked and insulted by your body, so I found it ridiculous.
“’I’ve been wearing the same outfits, the same cut tops, my entire career and there was never really that many comments on it until I started putting on a bit of weight.”
She added: “’I was like’ Gosh, if you’re shocked at boobs or even just a bit of cleavage on telly, I don’t know how people cope when they go to the swimming pool or the beach because there’s a lot more boobs on show there.
“It’s a woman’s body – I don’t feel like it should cause such outrage. I’m going to continue to dress how I’ve always dressed no matter what size I am.”
This summer Maya sparked a social media sensation thanks to her daring outfits on the sports-based show that she co-presented with Peter Crouch.
The Bristol-born star treated fans to a series of daring outfits that caught the attention of fans with many rushing to show their appreciation.
One wrote: “Anyone else can’t take their eyes off what Maya Jama isn’t wearing on Peter Crouch Save Our Summer. Wtf!!!”
Others made references to the title of the show, tweeting: “Maya Jama saving my Saturday night” and: “Maya Jama definitely saving my summer.”
Another termed her an “actual goddess”.
But some thought that it was a little too daring for Saturday night telly, as one said: “I’m just waiting on Maya Jama’s boobs just popping out tonight in front of my eyes! Glorious! #petercrouch #saveoursummer #boobs”
Another fan moaned she had “everything hanging out” but the presenter fired back saying “If you’re uncomfortable with my boobs that’s on you.”
Taking to Twitter she wrote: “If you feel uncomfortable by my boobs sitting in my dress that’s on you sis.
“We’re all fighting for equality and similar treatment to our male counterparts. Dont let the side down by hyper sexualising my bod.”
Maya says that she’s developed a thick skin and now laughs off negative comments, saying that angry people online only want an outlet and often take aim at those in the public eye.
The telly favourite regularly shares stunning snaps with her 1.9 million followers and admits that the abuse she gets doesn’t affect her as she is happy with her body shape.
She added: “Everybody has got different ideas of what they have as an ideal body shape, some people want to look really skinny, some people want to look really curvy, some people don’t care, some people really do care.
“Other people have their own opinions on how they prefer me to look but I’m certainly not letting that influence my own ideas.”
It’s not the first time the former Radio 1 presenter has caused viewers of the show to go into a social media frenzy.
Maya recently fired back at a troll who said that she had “saggy t**s” after she posed a stunning selfie of her wearing a low cut crop top and matching shorts.
Maya wrote next to the snap: “Wanted to put LL Cool J – Loungin lyrics as the caption but couldn’t ignore this lickle strand I’m forever clinging on to [sic].”
Her fans rushed to compliment her on how good she looks, apart from one troll who called her “saggy”.
But Maya didn’t let this comment upset her, and instead wrote back: “Lool I’m sorry are yours tucked under your chin or?”
Her fans loved this comeback with one saying: “You go girl.”
as enjoying a romance with former Love Island contestant Wes Nelson.
Maya has been connected to a couple of men recently and had to deny she was sleeping with rapper B Young.
Referring to the speculation, one person posted: “Maya Jama is a prime example of you can’t have boys mates without instantly everyone thinking you’re s***ging.”
Maya replied: “Oh honey it’s been this way.
“This is after he was on my team for a TV show but I’ve learnt even if I stood there with a sign on my head saying PRESENTER AT WORK if I’m next to a man people will act like I linked him down the road for a snog.”
The brunette beauty added: “It is a bit f* when I think about it. I’ll be doing my job minding my business, and next thing you know I’m on a blog with a 12-year-old debating how many men I’ve been with from selfies they’ve seen.”
