Council Boss Promises to prioritize Education
It was an atmosphere of memories and reminiscence as old students of Ikeja Grammar School converged to celebrate the school’s 60 years of existence in a grand style.
The school management, in celebrating the anniversary held a week-long programme cumulating in the convergence of Muslim faithful and their Christian counterparts for a Jumah service on Friday to thank God for the journey so far and progress made by the school in transforming lives of students in the Oshodi community.
Joining the celebration was the executive chairman of Oshodi-Isolo local government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede who was represented by the vice chairman, Mrs Modupe Badmus-Aregbe along with ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts.
While addressing the old students association of the school, Oloyede promised that his administration will give special attention to education this year, noting that he is passionate about education overhauling and development.
Mrs Badmus-Aregbe stated that “the Executive chairman is very passionate about education and he has been working towards changing the face of education within the local government. Within his short period in office, he has encouraged and supported education by providing different digital tools items that enhance education”.
Responding to immoral acts such as excessive late coming to school, indecent dressing and thuggery being perpetrated by some students in schools these days, the council boss assured that something drastic would be done to curb such unruly acts of the students.
She said; “I will discuss your observation with the chairman and I’m sure something drastic will be done about it. We can not allow them to derail from their studies. Though the state government has banned corporal punishment but we will devise appropriate means towards correcting the anomaly.”
Personalities present at the jumat prayer included the National President of Old Students Association of Ikeja Grammar School, Professor Sheriff Tella, vice president of the association, Mr Reuben Oni, Gen. Secretary, Barr. Dapo Opakunle, Treasurer, Barr. Mrs Jarikre, BOT chairman of the association, Alhaji Waheed Kadiri, who was former rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State, Chief Librarian of Tai Solarin University of Education, Dr. Jasiliu Kadiri, Mr Tunde Obaremi, Mr Shoremekun former Secretary to the Local Government, Oshodi-Isolo local gov, Rev. Dr. Bode Babalola among others.
