Nigeria’s Flying Eagles failed to make it to the final at the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after going down to a 1-0 defeat against the Young Scorpions of Gambia.

Adama Bojang netted the winning goal for the Gambians, seven minutes after a mistake by Flying Eagles captain, Daniel Bamaiyi.

That was the only shot Gambia managed for the entire duration of the game.

The Flying Eagles fought hard to get back into the game but were let down by their lack of creativity in the final third.

Ladan Bosso’s side were awarded a penalty six minutes from time after substitute Ahmed Abdullahi was fouled inside the box.

The KAA Gent forward however hit the woodwork to the agony of his teammates.

Gambia were reduced to 10-men late on when Haruna Njie was sent off cynical challenge.

The Flying Eagles will face Tunisia in the third-place match on Friday.
