Address social injustice, marginalisation, inequality – Ex-presidential aide, Sumaila tells FG

Abdulrahaman Sumaila, a former Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on House of Representatives matters, on Saturday, in Kano called on the Federal Government to urgently address social injustice, marginalisation and inequality.

Sumaila, who is contesting for the Kano South senatorial seat on the platform of New Nigerian Peoples Party made the observation at the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel dialogue series for political office contestants.

He opined that numerous agitations in the country is blamed on social injustice and inequality, recalling that during his interaction with some of the agitators, especially those from the South East, they complained of marginalisation and non-inclusiveness in government programmes, which informed their decision to clamour for secession from Nigeria.

He expressed optimism that he would defeat the incumbent Senator, Ibrahim Gaya in the 2023 election, pointing out that for his 16 years sojourn in the Senate, Gaya had never held any town hall meeting with his immediate constituents.

The Senatorial candidate explained that Kano South Senatorial District comprising 16 of the 44 local government areas in Kano State, is only remembered during election period, so as to garner their votes to recapture his seat.

He stated, “The power of incumbency is inconsequential, it will not help you to retain the Senate seat in 2023.”
