AFCON 2023: Umar Sadiq to play for Real Sociedad after leaving Super Eagles camp

Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq is set to play for the LaLiga side in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey clash.

Sadiq has been named in the squad to face Osasuna.

The striker was ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to a knee problem last Friday.

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro subsequently called up Paul Onuachu to replace Sadiq in the squad.

However, Sadiq was back training alone at Sociedad.

Following furious reactions from fans, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, was forced to release a statement.

The NFF insisted that “our medical team meticulously abided by the best medical procedures.”

It remains to be seen if Sadiq will play any part in the game, which comes a day before Nigeria take on Ivory Coast in their second AFCON group game.
