ASUU vs Buhari govt: Minister explains no-work-no-pay stance

The Nigerian government has maintained its stance on its no-work-no-pay policy amid the face-off with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, said the Federal Government can’t pay workers who did not work.

He gave the justification after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House.

Addressing journalists, the minister said the government has paid ASUU members what was due them.

Commenting on allegations that the government was planning to make lecturers casual workers, Adamu said:
“the strike has been called off and the government has paid them what is due to them. I think that’s the position of the government; we are not going to pay anyone for work not done and they only did, I think, the number of days that they were paid.

“How can anybody make a university lecturer casual? Do you know the meaning of casual worker? If you know the meaning of casual worker, it is impossible to make a university lecturer a casual worker”.
