Avoid campaign of calumny against Ugwuanyi – Enugu youths

A group of youths in Enugu State has urged residents to avoid any form of campaign of calumny against former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

In a joint press statement made available to journalists in Enugu on Saturday, the youths said Ugwuanyi deserved applause rather than name-calling.

While thanking the former governor for giving the youths ample opportunity in his administration, they said the level of peace and security Enugu enjoyed under the Ugwuanyi administration should not be taken for granted.

The statement was signed by Hon. Ebube Samuel Nebo, Hon. Dr. Chika Emmanuel Obeta, Hon. Edeani M. Edeani, Hon. Sebastine Prince Odo, Hon. John Tochukwu Ogbodo.

Other signatories included Hon. Chidi Concord Yakubu, Hon. Duke Chidi Nwafor, Hon. Chidi Ilogebe, Hon. Mark Onuoha and Hon. Ekala Ide Ikenna Jnr.

They said, “Posterity will be kind to you Your Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. We are indeed grateful for the platform you gave to us to launch our leadership career, despite not having political godfathers that will speak or intercede on our behalf.

“The norm has been that young persons are kept far away from the decision-making table, but former Gov. Ugwuanyi chose the path of honour by appointing young persons and bringing them into the system.

“So, the overall effect of this will be made manifest in a few years to come when these young persons would have attained their prime in politics and will take sound decisions if they find themselves in leadership positions owing to their early exposure to politics and governance.

“We make bold to state that Governor Ugwuanyi did his best and we owe him our prayers in his future endeavours. For making Enugu State peaceful despite the very diverse political, social and economic interests, he shall also find peace.”

The youths finally called on the people of Enugu State to avoid calumny and name-calling against the former Governor.
