Chelsea youngster Chukwuemeka open to playing for Nigeria

Carney Chukwuemeka has said he is open to representing Nigeria on the international scene.

Born in Austria to Nigerian parents, Chukwuemeka is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles despite representing England at youth level.

The 19-year-old was included in England’s squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in May.

The midfielder stated that the option of playing for the Super Eagles is one he would consider in future.

“I haven’t really thought that far. At the minute I’m focused on England, obviously, I’ve played for England at youth level, so we’ll see what the future holds,” he was quoted by Football London following Chelsea’s pre-season friendly draw against Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa last summer. He made 14 Premier League appearances for the Blues.
