Commissioner urges student nurses to promote health awareness

The Commissioner for Health in Cross River State, Henry Egbe Ayuk, has cautioned student nurses and other members of National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives to exhibit what they are taught in various nursing schools in the state by propagating messages on health, hygiene, family planning, environmental safety and other health beneficial enlightenment.

He gave the advice when the association climaxed their one-week annual celebration on Sunday in Calabar.

They had earlier visited him in his office to congratulate him, and as well inform him of activities to mark the association’s anniversary.

The commissioner said Cross River is making concerted efforts towards the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and so it behooves on all stakeholders in the health sector to support Governor Bassey Otu-led administration to actualise the lofty vision through public enlightenment, advocacy and outdoor campaigns in order to elicit public buy-in.

Assuring the students of his solidarity, the commissioner expressed his ministry’s readiness to support the association with partnerships that would engender health development for societal good.

Remarking, on behalf of the association, Blessing Ernest explained that the weeklong event, offered them from all Colleges of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery the opportunity to converge, socialise, unwind, network and chart a course for nursing sciences and midwifery education in the state, nay, Nigeria.
