COSON MOURNS THE OLUBADAN OF IBADAN, HRM OBA SALIU ADETUNJI

Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Nigeria’s biggest copyright collective management organization has expressed sadness at the news of the passing on of HRM, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadan.

Reacting to the sad news, COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji expressed his deepest sympathy to the family, friends, the people of Ibadan and the Oyo State Government over what he termed “a great loss of a passionate and dodged fighter for peace, unity and fairness.”

The COSON Chairman said that Oba Saliu Adetunji was his comrade and passionate ally in the defence of the music industry before he ascended the throne of his forefathers. Chief Okoroji noted that the revered monarch had hosted him and a COSON delegation to an elaborate reception in his palace in September 2016 during a visit to the Oyo State capital and that the monarch had taken time to commend COSON for the tremendous work that it continues to do, while also reminding the COSON team that he had previously fought the menace of copyright infringement alongside people like Chief Okoroji and others in the music industry.

Said Chief Okoroji, “at the end of the day, we are remembered for what we give and not what we take. HRM Oba Saliu Adetunji will be remembered not only for the happiness he brought to his people but also his service to the Nigerian creative industry. May his soul rest in peace” .

In the same vein, the COSON General Manager, Mrs. Bernice Eriemeghe-Ashibuogwu said that Nigeria has once again lost an industrious icon.

“The news of his death shocked everyone at COSON. This was a monarch who put in his best for his people and had shown great support for the growth of the music industry. We mourn one of Nigeria’s great icons and we pray that God grants his family the grace and strength to bear such irreplaceable loss” she concluded.
