Jubilation is ongoing in parts of Cross River State following early results from 1708 polling units showing clear leadership by the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Bassey Otu as of 11.30am.

There are 3281 polling units and 18 LGAs with 25 state constituencies in Cross River State.

From the early results computed in the polling units, Otu is leading clearly with 41,500 while his closest rival, PDP candidate, Sandy Onor scores far less.

The overall collated results are to be put together at 5pm today Sunday at INEC state headquarters in Calabar. After this, the eventual winner would be formally announced.

While the formal results are being awaited, excitement and jubilation have commenced among party supporters, especially APC members and Otu’s kinsmen, the Efiks, in Cross River Southern District who were said to have voted for him.

Otu was seen as favourable to win, according to natives, because of his appealing nature, which reason they nicknamed him, Our Sweet Prince.

Cross River has always been a PDP state until two years ago when the outgoing governor, Ben Ayade defected to APC.

PDP gubernatorial candidate Sandy Onor, however, said he has not lost hope until the final result is called. He has encouraged his supporters to be peaceful and optimistic about victory.
