On Wednesday, some elders in Ekiti State lamented the state’s recent spate of kidnappings and ritual killings, calling the situation deplorable and making people’s lives unbearable.

Under the auspices of the Ekiti Council of Elders, senior citizens urged the public to avoid those flaunting sudden wealth from unknown sources in order to discourage ritual killers and Internet fraudsters.

In a statement, the council’s Chairman, Prof Joseph Oluwasanmi, and Secretary, Niyi Ajibulu, also advised religious centers preaching prosperity to deemphasize riches and emphasize the ‘Omoluabi’ attributes.

The statement also advocated for greater community cooperation and closer family relationships in order to support and monitor individual members.

The council called for the deployment of additional security personnel and more effective patrol of the roads and advised on the setting up of closer security checkpoints at identified black spots where hoodlums had struck a number of times.

Oluwasanmi and Ajibulu said the issues of concern were central in the agenda for the council’s meeting on Thursday.
