Enyimba defeat Akwa United 3-1 in pre-season friendly

Nigeria Professional League champions, Enyimba defeated Akwa United 3-1 in a pre-season friendly at the Uyo Township Stadium.

Enyimba took the lead from a direct free kick in the sixth minute through Chijoke Mbaoma.

New signing Joseph Atule doubled the advantage with a good strike from outside the box in the 23rd minute.

The People’s Elephant added the third goal in the 33rd minute through Alalibo Somiari after a mixup in Akwa United’s defence.

Rilwan Sadiq reduced the deficit for Akwa United four minutes after the break.

Both teams used the friendly to test their readiness for the new season.

Enyimba will kick-start the new season with a CAF Champions League preliminary round fixture against Al Ahli Benghazi of Libya.
