Former Aston Villa captain, Gabriel Agbonlahor has warned Chelsea manager, Graham Potter that he could be sacked if his team’s results continue to deteriorate.

The warning follows Chelsea’s latest Premier League 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

Potter was appointed Chelsea manager last September following the sack of Thomas Tuchel, he had a good start, but the Blues’ results have been poor recently.

Chelsea has won just one of their last nine matches across competitions and is currently in tenth position on the Premier League table, a massive 19 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor said Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly wouldn’t hesitate to sack Potter if Chelsea’s results don’t improve.

He also asked the Chelsea board to allow Potter to continue to work with the squad.

“I do expect that this owner will sack Potter if he doesn’t improve things. But I’m hoping he doesn’t. He needs time. A lot of players in this squad are not his. James has had his injury problems, Aubameyang up front who has lost his legs, and a midfield, which needs freshening up,” Agbonlahor said.

“Chelsea needs a rebuilding season. Liverpool has had one; Arsenal has had one; Man United have had one. They could finish sixth or seventh, but it is about sorting this squad out. I am hoping he gets the time he needs, but we have already seen that Boehly won’t mess about.”
