EPL: Arteta says Aubameyang, others were damaging Arsenal

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has said that the club was being damaged by ‘several players’.
He said these players held the club back as he discussed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exit earlier this year on Sky Sports
Arteta stripped Aubameyang of the captaincy and relegated him to the youth team after accusing him of disciplinary issues.
The Gabon international later lost his contract at the club as Arteta admitted he recommended that the contract be terminated.
The former Borussia Dortmund star joined Barcelona in February after his £350,000-a-week contract was terminated.
But Arteta said Aubameyang was not the only player dragging the Gunners backwards.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the Spaniard was asked about the decision to get rid of Aubameyang.
“First of all, I didn’t take that decision, we took that decision as a club,” he said.
“Obviously there is my recommendation and what I feel that we need to do to get where we want.
“But I wouldn’t like to single out one player. I think it was with several players.
“There are people holding that boat [back] and putting weight on it.
“I’m sorry, but we want to go even faster and there’s no time, whether it’s a player or a staff member, for someone damaging the club and we made that decision.”
