EPL: I didn’t tell Rashford to leave the ball – Fernandes speaks on ‘offside goal’ against Man City

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has spoken on his controversial goal against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Manchester United came from a goal down to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 2-1 in the Manchester derby and closed the gap to their noisy neighbours to just one point.

Fernandes scored a very controversial goal after Marcus Rashford appeared clearly offside, having chased down Casemiro’s pass from an offside position but did not make contact with it.

The England international left the ball for Fernandes to shoot and equalised for the Red Devils.

He said, “I was facing the goal and Michael felt I was in a better position. I didn’t tell him to leave the ball.

“I didn’t even know if any of us were in an offside position or not because no one was close to him [Rashford]..

“So he didn’t influence anything. It’s a goal at the end of the day.”
