FA Cup: I’m gutted – Rio Ferdinand singles out five Man Utd players after defeat to City

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has singled out five Red Devils players following the team’s FA Cup final 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

Man City defeated Man United in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium, thanks to Ilkay Gundogan’s brace.

Bruno Fernandes did score a penalty for Erik ten Hag’s side against Man City.

Speaking on his YouTube channel after the game, Ferdinand hailed the likes of Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Marcus Rashford and Fernandes.

Ferdinand said, “Well, there you have it, guys, the treble is on (for Manchester City).

“Unfortunately, Manchester United could not do anything about it. Pep Guardiola and his team were better on the day.

“Ilkay Gundogan – what a player he is. Big moments and big goals constantly and you can see why he is captain. He’s a top, top player.”

“But I’m gutted for Man Utd. You know how important these games are. It is hard to take. Man Utd were fortunate with the penalty.”

He added, “The leadership at the club [Man United] was not right (in the past). But Richard Arnold (chief executive) has come in and approached things differently.

“Erik ten Hag has come in. The recruitment of Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez has been huge. Raphael Varane when he is fit.

“Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have stepped up. But they are going to have to add pieces if they want to get closer to this Manchester City team.”
