FACT CHECK: 5 Lies PDP’s Adediran Olajide aka Jandor Told

The 34th President of the United States of America, Dwight D. Eisenhower’s favourite quote that, “the supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity and without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army or in an office” is quite apt in the current season of electioneering in Nigeria.

To this end, a leader is expected to be one who is truthful and trustworthy, and can be held to his words as campaign promises fly around from contenders in passionate bids to impress and swing voters for support.

The Lagos State gubernatorial candidate of the People democratic party (PDP), Mr. Adediran Olajide popularly known as JANDOR has not lived up to expectations in this regard.

He seems to have a penchant for grandstanding and making outlandish statements which show he is not in tune with how government works or how to handle affairs of government.

Little wonders his former boss and former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola wrote him off as an oridinary camera man.

Sadly, many of his claims and comments made publicly have turned out to be untrue. Here are a few:

1. ISSUE: The gruesome death of Bamishe Ayanwole perpetrated by a rogue BRT bus driver put Lagosians into a sober mood.

CLAIM
Jandor had visited the grieving family to mourn with them. He tried to score a cheap political score by claiming afterwards reportedly that he had paid Bamishe’s mortuary bill.

Fact check: false and misleading

The spokesman of the Lagos APC, Hon. Seye Oladejo, came out and debunked the claim revealing that the Lagos State Government actually paid the bill. With his false claim, Oladejo said, Jandor once again displayed his characteristic and nauseating ignorance in his assessment of the present government in Lagos state.

1. ISSUE: Adediran Olajide political Campaign

CLAIM
Jandor said the Igbo Communities in Lagos State had endorsed him and his running mate, Ms Funke Akindele.

Fact check: false and misleading

Eze Uche Dimgba, the Eze Ndigbo Ikeja, Okpotemba Igber, the Executive Coordinator of Ndigbo in APC, Lagos State, said it was a lie. In his words: “I saw my picture (used in the story) trending; that we endorsed the PDP candidate, Mr Jandor, as Ndigbo preferred candidate.

“We wish to categorically state that at no time did we endorse him, as we have no business whatsoever with him and the PDP as a party.

3.ISSUE: Public Allegations about Debt

CLAIM
Jandor during an interview on Arise TV last year alleged that Governor Sanwo-Olu has added N276 billion to the state debt burden in the last one year.

Fact checks: False and misleading

Data released for Q1 of 2021, that is March 31, 2021, put the state’s domestic debt at N507,377,449,198.76.

If this is subtracted from the figure released for Q1 2022, the margin is N273,099,431,364.3. Mr Jandor added a whooping N3 billion debt to the state profile.

1. ISSUE : States Fiscal Performance

CLAIM
On Channels Television programme, Jandor claimed Lagos is not ranked among the top five states with fiscal performance despite it’s huge generated revenue.

Facts Checks: False and Misleading

According to budgit’s 2022 state of states report that lagos has cotinued to increase in its ability to mobilize domestic resources, increasing its IGR by 80.65% over the course of six years, from N302.43 billion in 2016 to N546.35 billion in 2021. As a result, the states fiscal rating has improved, moving up from fourth in 2021 to third in 2022

1. ISSUE : Primary Education

CLAIM
Jandor claimed Ajido community has only one primary school and also lacked basic amenities.

Fact Check: False and Misleading

The chairman of Badagry Local government Onilude Olusegun immediately debunked the misleading report saying there are two primary schools and one secondary school in Ajido main town; L.A Primary School Ajido, Unity Primary School Ajido and Iworo-Ajido Model College.

He added that the community has a functional town hall and Primary Health Centre in addition to the PHC donated by the West Africa Gas Company (WAPCO) and acommunity with motorable access road equipped with functional traffic light.
