Femi Falana, Tayo Oyetibo, Muiz Banire lead As 35 Lagos Lawmakers in Court over Obasa’s Removal
Thirty-five members of the Lagos State House of Assembly supporting the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa have arrived at the Lagos State High Court for the hearing of a case filed by Obasa.
Obasa had challenged his January 13, 2025, removal by 36 lawmakers while he was out of the country. In his suit, filed on February 12, 2025, through his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), he argued that his removal was unlawful.
Representing the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, are Prof. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) and other senior lawyers, including Femi Falana (SAN), Muiz Banire (SAN), and Olu Daramola (SAN), among others.
Meanwhile, the House of Assembly has condemned what it described as an unauthorized attempt by Obasa and three members to convene a plenary session on Thursday.
In a statement issued by the House’s media office, spokesman Hon. Steve Ogundipe emphasized that the session lacked the necessary quorum, formal notice, agenda, and the mace, making it unconstitutional and invalid.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to democratic governance and legislative integrity, expressing full support for Speaker Mojisola Meranda, dismissing any speculation about her resignation. It also pledged to work with the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to resolve ongoing disputes in the interest of Lagosians.
