The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, has resigned.

This Ganduje APC resignation was confirmed to The Eagle Online by a top source within the Presidency on Friday, marking a significant development within Nigeria’s ruling party.

According to the same source, Ganduje, a former two-term Kano State governor, was compelled to step down to allow the party to revert to its established zoning formula.

This formula dictates that the North Central geopolitical zone should produce the National Chairman, rather than the North West, where Ganduje hails from.

Reliable sources further indicate that President Bola Tinubu personally enforced the resignation of the APC boss on Friday.

The President is insistent that in the countdown to the 2027 elections, the party must enforce all the rules and one of them is the zone that should occupy the seat of the national chairman.

Despite repeated calls for him to vacate the seat, particularly from the North Central, Ganduje had consistently maintained that he would not resign from his position.

However, a source privy to the developments told The Eagle Online, “The President is insistent that in the countdown to the 2027 elections, the party must enforce all the rules and one of them is the zone that should occupy the seat of the national chairman.”
