Gov Fubara promises to prioritise civil servants’ welfare

Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has assured civil servants in the state that his administration will prioritise their welfare.

Governor Fubara gave the assurance when he visited the Rivers State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt.

He said the purpose of his visit was to make an on-the-spot assessment of the state of the facilities at the secretariat and to address the challenges to improve the productivity of workers.

Fubara admitted the secretariat lacked functional utilities, particularly water supply and security.

He noted that the state government had previously spent much money on water supply in the secretariat, but there was no justification for the funds that were expended.

The governor also called for an investigation into the expenditure of the funds disbursed.

Fubara in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Boniface Onyedi, charged the civil servants to show commitment and dedication to their duties, as indolence and nonchalant attitudes will not be condoned.

The Governor, before carrying out an assessment of the state secretariat, held an inaugural meeting with the Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt, with a charge to reorganise the state civil service for greater efficiency.
