Gunmen sets divisional Police headquarters ablaze in Imo

Gunmen set fire to the Divisional Police Headquarters in the Umuguma Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

The gunmen are said to have stormed the police station at around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday and attacked officers on duty.

The suspects also released detained individuals and set fire to the police station using petrol bombs.

Residents reported the assailants shot into the air during the raid, scaring them into hiding in the woods.

The Imo state police command public relations officer Mike Abattam confirmed the report of the attack.

Abattam, however, debunked allegations that police officers were killed.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the State, Rabiu Hussaini, has activated all the Rapid Response Team and they are on the trail of perpetrators.
