Hoodlums Attack German National In Abuja
A German national was reportedly attacked Saturday morning by hoodlums who snatched his phone and other belongings.
The incident happened along IBB Way, near Maitama Primary School in the Maitama district of Abuja.
A witness said the victim was jogging around 8 am when he was attacked.
Mathew Jamea, who claimed to be working in the neighbourhood, said the two hoodlums were on a motorcycle when they attacked the victim.
However, another visitor to the area said the victim was attacked by one person, who made away with his phone.
When contacted yesterday night, FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, a Superintendent, confirmed that there was a report that a hoodlum had reportedly attacked a man who was jogging in the area.
She said the hoodlum, who she said was alone, snatched the victim’s phone.
She added that the incident was reported to the police and that an investigation is ongoing to track the phone.
There have been concerns among residents regarding the growing insecurity in the nation’s capital.
A civil servant, Hannah Isayah, pleaded with the FCT Administration to intensify efforts to curb insecurity in the territory.
She said, “The insecurity threats include those from ‘one chance’ robbers, phone and bike snatchers, armed robbers, child stealing in some of the satellite towns, among others.”
In response to the growing security concerns, the FCT Administration had set up a special task force to address all threats to insecurity in the territory.
The task force has, among other things, commenced the clearance of areas believed to be shanties for hoodlums in different parts of the city.
It would be recalled that the U.S. Embassy had earlier warned American citizens to avoid military and government facilities in Abuja due to security concerns.
