House Of Reps Mourns Deputy Chief Whip, Adewunmi Onanuga

The House of Representatives has announced with deep sorrow the passing of its Deputy Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State. Hon. Onanuga died earlier today following a brief illness.
Born on December 2, 1965, Hon. Onanuga was a trailblazing public servant and a passionate advocate for her constituents. She first joined the House of Representatives in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), serving as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development during the 9th Assembly. Her tenure was marked by impactful initiatives aimed at empowering women and advancing social welfare programs.
In 2023, she was re-elected and appointed Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly. Known for her exceptional leadership, Hon. Onanuga was a vital force in maintaining legislative discipline and decorum during parliamentary sessions. Affectionately referred to as “Ijaya,” her intellect, humility, and commitment to excellence garnered respect from colleagues and constituents alike.
“Her contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape and her unwavering dedication to improving lives will be remembered as a legacy of service,” stated Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the House Spokesman.
The House of Representatives expressed heartfelt condolences to her family, associates, the government and people of Ogun State, and the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by her family.
