Former France international Claude Makelele has said that he made Aurelian Tchouameni join Real Madrid instead of Chelsea.

Tchouameni moved to Real Madrid in £85million deal from Monaco last summer.

The 22-year-old’s development at Monaco also caught the attention of Chelsea and other top European clubs.

It was looking likely the France midfielder was on his way to West London until Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea following the war that broke out in Ukraine.

Makelele, who spent five years at Stamford Bridge after a three-year stint at Real Madrid, revealed he helped the Spaniards sign the midfielder.
