I AM STILL VERY MUCH IN THE COUNCILLORSHIP RACE

Dear leaders and the good people of Ward A, Agege, this is the time for better representation in Agege Legislative Arm. Thus, it’s highly imperative to note that you all must collectively support me to be the Councillorship candidate not because of my age but because of my state of mind, temper of the will, quality of imagination, predominance of courage over timidity, and the appetite for adventure over the love of ease.

Amongst the aspirants, I am the aspirant that has influence among the people and ready to champion the positive agitations and yearnings of the youths.

My aspiration is an account for the leaders and government’s inclusion of youth in governance because innovations needed to be ingrained into the way the government thinks and operates. And this couldn’t be achieved without the custodians of innovations, who are the youths.

Many of our leaders, business mogul, philanthropist and et al see United Arab Emirates, the forsaken desert as the commercial hub and city of the future of world. This wouldn’t have been achieved if their youths are not included in Government and governance.

My name sake, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rasheed Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and the Ruler of Dubai brought the vision of Dubai to limelight by giving the youths the chances in Government to launch initiatives, explore the challenges of the future and convert them into opportunities for sustainable development.

In 2017, he gave Omar Al Olama, born in 1990 the chance by appointing him as the Minister for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the age of 27.

In 2016, he gave Shamma Almazrui, a 22 year old youth the chance to become the Minister for Youth affairs.

Away from Dubai, our Country Nigeria has known good times. Many of our leaders attained the great heights they’re today at their youthful age. The likes of Rt. Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa was in his 20s when he became a Councillor in the Agege Legislative Arm in 1999; Hon Taofeeq Adaranijo was in his 20s when he became a Councillor in the Agege Legislative Arm in 1996; Hon Jubreel Ayodeji Abdulkareem was in his 30s when he became Supervisory Councillor in Agege Local Government Area; a young monk began the Protestant reformation; a young general extended an empire from Macedonia to the borders of the earth; a young woman reclaimed the territory of France; and it was a young Italian explorer who discovered the New World, and the 32 year old Thomas Jefferson who proclaimed that “all men are equal” are all in their youthful age. But this begs the question; ‘why the changed?’ Why not telling the youths the truth to know? Why are the leaders who attained leadership and elected positions in their youthful age asking the youths to step down for Incumbent Councillor who is in his 60s?

No wonder bulk of Nigerian youths are currently trapped in treacherous triangle of urban delinquency problems which has severely challenged our sensibility and has in the long run given rise to attitudes of resignation and acceptance of situation.

The major truth is that it’s time to fix the competent and merited youths from the grassroots because it’s pertinent to note that youths represent the future of any nation and the quality of youths a nation breeds, is directly proportional to the quality of its future.

I’m citing out this, because it’s not to late to support and offer innovative minded youth like me the level playing ground to get into position where I’ll meaningfully contribute immensely and encourage more participation of youths to nation building. By so doing, it’s logical that youth have been given a voice and role in governing the grassroot.

I am fit and prepared to participate in governmental processes for I have in-depth knowledge on leadership, and as well know the loopholes facing the system and have handy solutions. Not a keen solutions for my pockets but for the services to humanity.

The future is now, the tomorrow is today, for I have taken the bull by it horns because by so doing, we can build and develop the nation for a nation is a reflection of the people who live in it.

I am Comrade Olayiwola Rasheed Jebba Hamilton, Councillorship Aspirant, Ward A, Agege Local Government Area.
