International Youth Day 2026: TPS Urges Young People to Turn Common Aspirations into Responsible Action
The Press Society (TPS) has called on young people across Nigeria and beyond to translate their aspirations for dignity, quality education, opportunity and a sustainable future into responsible and meaningful action.
The society made the call in a message to commemorate International Youth Day 2026, observed on Wednesday, August 12, under the global theme: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
TPS said the theme underscores the reality that although young people around the world live in different social, economic and cultural environments, they share fundamental aspirations for a better and more inclusive future.
The Society, however, stressed that aspirations alone are not enough to transform communities and nations, urging young people to take ownership of the change they desire.
According to TPS, young people must move beyond being spectators of societal challenges and become responsible participants in finding solutions to them.
It urged them to remain informed, reject misinformation, promote truth and justice, and deploy technology and Artificial Intelligence ethically and responsibly.
The Society also encouraged young people to use their voices and platforms to create positive impact in their communities, stressing that responsible citizenship remains critical to building a peaceful, just and sustainable society.
“Whether you are a journalist, student, entrepreneur, professional, activist or community leader, your voice matters—and so does how you use it,” TPS said.
The Society noted that the world needs young people who are not only passionate about their dreams but also possess the courage, character and sense of responsibility required to transform those dreams into reality.
TPS added that the diversity of young people’s circumstances should not prevent them from working towards shared goals, describing responsible action as a critical bridge between aspiration and sustainable development.
The Society therefore called on young people to turn ideas into impact, aspirations into action and opportunities into solutions, while using their talents and platforms to contribute positively to society.
“Different contexts may shape our experiences, but our aspirations remain common. Let us turn those common aspirations into responsible action and become the generation that does not wait for change but responsibly creates it,” TPS said.
The Press Society further reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible media practice, empowering communities and encouraging young people to contribute meaningfully to society, particularly in an era of rapid technological advancement and Artificial Intelligence.
