Taraba State governor Kefas Agbu Kefas has appointed Alhaji Abubakar Bawa as his Special Adviser on Political Matters.
DAILY POST gathered that the appointment was in line with moves initiated by the governor towards bringing an end to the ongoing leadership crisis in the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The appointment was announced through a press statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Jalingo, the state capital, by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yusuf Sanda,
Bawa, who has been laying claim to the chairmanship position of the party, confirmed that he has accepted the appointment.
He also said the appointment was part of the process of reconciling the two factions of the party in the state.
Commending the governor for wading into the crisis, Bawa declared, “With this appointment, the wrangling in our party has come to an end.”
He promised to immediately embark on the process of withdrawing his suit from court so as to ensure the success of the reconciliation process embarked on by the governor.
DAILY POST recalls that Bawa and Alhaji Inuwa Bakari have been at loggerheads over who is to preside over the party’s affairs in Taraba.
The crisis which has led to the sealing of the party’s state secretariat by security operatives, had also divided the party into two factions.
Speaking with DAILY POST, the state spokesperson of the party, Andeta’rang Irammae, said the appointment is one of the major steps that have been taken by the governor to resolve the crisis.
Irammae expressed hopes that the crisis will soon be a thing of the past.
When contacted by DAILY POST, the Acting Chairman of the party, Bakari, who had earlier dragged Bawa to court, said the governor is leaving no stone unturned towards resolving the crisis.
Some party members who spoke on the development also commended the governor for initiating the reconciliation process.
The crisis in the party commenced shortly after the 2023 general elections when the former governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, appointed Bawa as the party’s substantive chairman.
