On Thursday, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, announced that Lagos State would host the 35th National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST), titled “Eko 2022.”

He made the announcement in Abuja during a preliminary meeting with the Lagos State Government through Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, and her team.

According to Runsewe, Lagos State met all of the prerequisites for hosting the event.
He estimated that 5,000 participants from 36 states and the FCT would attend the celebration in Lagos.

According to him, the festival’s purpose is to foster national togetherness via the arts and culture.

He noted that the festival gives hosting states the opportunity to showcase their culture and activities to people from diverse cultures so that they can appreciate and learn about their cultures.

He said if the citizens could understand and respect other people’s cultures, there would be no tension in Nigeria.

Runsewe crowned the wife of the governor of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, as Mama NAFEST 2022.
