Mercy Suoyo Makes History as Miss Earth Nigeria Celebrates 25 Years

Twenty-four-year-old Mercy Enenimiete Suoyo has been crowned Miss Earth Nigeria 2026, emerging as the Silver Jubilee Queen at a colourful grand finale held at the Palacio Event Center, GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Suoyo, who hails from Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, defeated 16 other contestants to clinch the coveted crown. A graduate of Linguistics and Communication Studies, she is no stranger to the Miss Earth Nigeria platform, having previously held the title of Miss Earth Nigeria (Air) in 2021.

Her return to the pageant stage five years later makes her victory particularly significant as the organisation celebrates its 25th anniversary. As the new queen, Suoyo will represent Nigeria at the forthcoming global Miss Earth competition, where she will champion environmental initiatives centred on the restoration and protection of Nigeria’s mangrove ecosystems, coastal preservation and sustainable ecological practices.

Established in 2002, Miss Earth Nigeria is the national pageant responsible for selecting Nigeria’s representative to the global Miss Earth competition. Unlike conventional beauty pageants, the Miss Earth platform places strong emphasis on environmental awareness, conservation and eco-tourism.

Under the management of former Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President, Nollywood actress and former beauty queen Ibinabo Fiberesima, the organisation has continued to use the pageant as a platform for environmental advocacy. Its delegates participate in initiatives including tree-planting campaigns, community clean-ups and other activities aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.

The grand finale attracted notable personalities from government, development agencies, entertainment and the business community.

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Esq., was represented at the event by the Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Dr. Shaibu Husseini.

Also in attendance was Chief Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Finance and Administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Entrepreneur and influencer Queen May Yul Edochie, through her brand QM Beauty Cosmetics, served as an official sponsor and was present to lend her support to the contestants. Nollywood personalities including Zeb Ejiro, Monalisa Chinda, Hilda Dokubo and Uju Okoli were also among the notable guests.

The organisation also used the occasion to recognise individuals who have contributed significantly to the growth and success of Miss Earth Nigeria. Among those honoured was Bishop Tony Marioghae, who received special recognition for his longstanding support and mentorship of Nigerian delegates participating in the international Miss Earth competition in the Philippines.

With her historic Silver Jubilee crown, Mercy Suoyo now takes on the responsibility of carrying Nigeria’s environmental message to the global Miss Earth stage, bringing her personal advocacy for mangrove restoration and coastal conservation to an international audience.
