MTN Nigeria, FAAN Roll Out Free High-Speed Wi-Fi at Major International Airports
The (FAAN) and have entered into a strategic partnership to provide free, high-capacity Wi-Fi connectivity at Nigeria’s major international airports, in a move aimed at enhancing passenger experience and accelerating the country’s digital transformation.
The initiative has commenced at Terminal 2 of (MMIA), Lagos, and (NAIA), Abuja. Plans are underway to extend the service to Port Harcourt International Airport; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu; as well as the nearly completed Temporary Terminal at MMIA, Lagos.
The collaboration underscores FAAN and MTN’s shared commitment to improving customer satisfaction and aligning Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure with global standards, where reliable internet connectivity is now considered a basic passenger service. With the deployment of free Wi-Fi at these key transport hubs, travellers can seamlessly stay connected, manage travel itineraries, conduct business, and access vital information while navigating airport terminals.
FAAN’s Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood, described the initiative as a significant milestone for the aviation sector.
“Our message today is crystal clear: Nigerian aviation is open for business, ready for the future, and unwilling to settle for less than the best. This partnership with MTN represents something far larger than convenience; it is a testament to what we can achieve when the public and private sectors align their capabilities with a shared national purpose,” he said.
He also reassured passengers of FAAN’s commitment to continuous improvement. “To our valued travelling public, we hear you. We see the gaps, and we are actively working to close them. This Wi-Fi is our promise that FAAN is listening, and we hope you will hold us accountable as we continue this transformation.”
Speaking on behalf of MTN, Lynda Saint Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, highlighted the broader significance of the partnership.
“For us at MTN, this partnership reinforces our commitment to supporting national infrastructure development and enabling digital access in public spaces. We see this as proof that enterprise-grade connectivity can transform shared environments, stimulate engagement, and create lasting value. We are excited about what this partnership delivers today and even more excited about what it can enable in the future,” she stated.
To access the service, passengers can select the airport’s designated Wi-Fi network, “MMIA FREE WIFI,” and will be automatically redirected to FAAN’s branded welcome portal. After reviewing and accepting the Terms and Conditions, users register with their name and email address to gain instant, time-limited access. A confirmation email is then sent to complete verification, after which passengers enjoy full connectivity. On subsequent visits, returning users benefit from automatic recognition or a single-tap login for faster access.
