North-West PDP chieftain quits party

The Northwest ex-officio member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Aminu Nuhu Jahun, has resigned from the party.

Jahun confirmed his resignation in an interview with DAILY POST on Sunday.

His resignation, however, may not be unconnected with his recent suspension for one month by the state working committee.

According to him: “I was in my office when I received a call from the SWC of the party inviting me to state headquarters. They told me the party is accusing me of working against the interests of the party, that I attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Kano State governor, and I confirmed it. After a while, I was also served with a one-month suspension letter from the party.”

He said that he had nothing to do with working against the party or the party’s constitution. He, however, confirmed that he has a personal relationship with the Kano State governor.

“If this is an offence, I have no regrets over it, because we did the same with the 2023 state’s PDP gubernatorial candidate in 2015, when we attended Governor Tambuwal’s inauguration while he was in APC,” he said.

Jahun stressed that he has been an active member of PDP for over 24 years, during which he served variously as PDP North West ex-officio member, State Publicity Secretary, and Vice Chairman in charge of Jigawa Central senatorial district.

He was disappointed that the party failed to appreciate all his contributions.

“Due to this, I decided to withdraw my membership from the party and would announce my next party within 48 hours,” Jahun stated.
