NPFL: Sunshine Stars defeat Lobi in Akure

Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, on Sunday, defeated Lobi Stars of Makurdi on Match Day 15 to earn their first victory of the second stanza of Group B of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.

David Onovo, Sunshine Stars’ forward, headed in a corner kick in the 23rd minute to give the home team a 1-0 victory in the keen contest that was played at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

In the closely contested game, all attempts by the home team to increase their score were unsuccessful following wasteful opportunities

Prior to the encounter, Sunshine Stars had drawn 1-1 with Wikki Tourists FC in Bauchi on matchday 10 and Doma United in Akure on matchday 11.

However, they still have a match against Rivers United on matchday 12. They also had a matchday 14 loss away to Abia United.

According to Sunshine Stars’ head coach, Edith Agoye, the pursuit of the Super Six was still on course.

“We still have four more games to go, three away and one at home. We believe seriously in the dream of Super Six and we give everything to make sure we are there,” he said.

Muhammed Babaganaru, the coach of the Lobi Stars, said it was a successful trip for his squad, considering the high morals and strong character displayed by the team on the pitch.

While Lobi Stars still continued to lead the log with 26 points after 15 matches, Sunshine Stars are in fifth place with 21 points from 14 games.
