NSCDC Boss Cracks Down on Corruption, Warns Officers Against Compromising Integrity

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Audi, has declared that corruption and fraud pose a grave threat to the effectiveness and credibility of the Corps, warning personnel that integrity remains non-negotiable in the discharge of their duties.

Audi issued the warning on Tuesday in Abuja during the induction of 100 officers into the NSCDC Anti-Fraud Unit, where he reaffirmed the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy on corruption and unethical conduct.

The newly inducted officers, drawn from various formations nationwide, are expected to strengthen the Corps’ internal mechanisms for detecting, preventing and investigating fraud within the organisation.

Addressing the officers, the NSCDC boss stressed that the Corps could not successfully carry out its constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order and ensuring community safety without officers who are guided by honesty and accountability.

He described fraud and corruption as “insidious threats” capable of undermining operational efficiency, eroding public confidence and damaging the reputation of the agency.

“Fraud and corruption are insidious threats that can undermine our efforts, erode public trust, and compromise the very fabric of our agency. They not only affect our operations but also tarnish the reputation of the entire civil service. Today, we take a stand against these threats, reinforcing our commitment to ethical conduct and accountability,” Audi declared.

The Commandant General urged the officers to serve as ambassadors of transparency and professionalism, noting that the credibility of the Corps depends largely on the integrity of its personnel.

In her welcome address, the Head of the NSCDC Anti-Fraud Unit, Commandant of Corps Dr. Emeribe Chinyere Victory, said the unit has continued to evolve into one of the Corps’ foremost accountability mechanisms since its establishment in 2007.

She recalled that the pioneer officers received specialised training at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Institute in 2008, adding that subsequent leaderships have continued to strengthen the unit through sustained capacity building.

According to her, the Anti-Fraud Unit is responsible for detecting, preventing and investigating corrupt practices involving both personnel of the Corps and contractors dealing with the organisation.

Emeribe commended the Commandant General for providing an enabling environment that allows the unit to discharge its responsibilities without interference, saying the support has strengthened internal accountability and enhanced professionalism within the Corps.

The event also witnessed the public presentation of two books authored by Dr. Emeribe—The Dark Side of Duty and The Anti-Fraud Lexicon—which were reviewed by retired Assistant Controller General Hammed Abodurin.

Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of major security and intelligence agencies, including the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The induction and book launch underscore the NSCDC leadership’s renewed determination to institutionalise transparency, strengthen internal discipline and reinforce public confidence in the Corps as part of broader efforts to combat corruption within Nigeria’s security architecture.
