Old students donate building to 89-year-old Christ School in Ekiti

The 1982 set of Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, has donated a renovated and well-equipped building for the use of the current students in the 89-year-old secondary school.

The president of 1977-1982 set, Dr Sola Oyebode, while speaking during the 2022 homecoming of the set, said the refurbished dining hall for the girls section cost the alumni about N18 million.

Oyebode explained that the old students were moved by the state of the building after 40 years of their graduation and decided to pull resources together towards giving the building a facelift and make it up-to-date with any modern dining hall in schools across the country.

He said, “We are happy to be back again in our school after 40 years that we left here and we can say it is a unique opportunity to see ourselves again. It provides interface between the past and current students of the school.

“Among other interventions in the school in the past, this year we have renovated, refurbished and rebranded the dining hall of the girls section of the school to give our students the needed comfort and convenience to have their meals.

“The project alone cost us about N18 million which we gathered among ourselves because Christ School is our alma mater and we will be entirely attached to the school.

“We will continue to give back to the school which played a critical role in our lives and we are advising the current students to remain focused and determined in their academics, which will help them to become whatever they hope to be in future.”

According to him, the homecoming of the set after forty years of graduation was put together to serve as an avenue for the old students to interact with one another and celebrate progress and successes amongst themselves in their various chosen endeavours.

While commending the decision of the state government to handover the school to Anglican Church, which is the original owner, he added that the gesture would in no small measure enhance academic growth and development of the school.
