Omogeye Has No Preferred Candidate in Amuwo Odofin Labour Party for the Local Government Elections
The attention of Hon. George Adegeye Olawande (Omogeye), Representative for Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, has been drawn to a publication by IntelReporters titled “Party Members Fume as Rep Threatens to Withdraw Support Unless Preferred Candidates Are Accepted.” The report is not only misleading but a gross misrepresentation of facts aimed at misleading the public and undermining the internal processes of the Labour Party.
In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Amb. Kingsley Enwelim Nwanze, Hon. Omogeye categorically refuted the claims, stating that he has not endorsed any candidate for the upcoming Local Government elections. He reiterated his unshake commitment to the growth, unity, and democratic strength of the Labour Party in Amuwo Odofin and across Lagos State.
According to the statement, the closed-door meeting referenced in the report was a routine consultative session focused on fostering internal cohesion and evaluating constituency needs. At no time did Hon. Omogeye issue any threats or ultimatums. Rather, he urged party executives to prioritize merit, electability, and service delivery when considering candidates, emphasizing that no aspirant should be favored based on sentiments or personal affiliations.
The statement further described as “laughable and untrue” the insinuation that party leaders at the LGA and Ward levels have been silenced. It affirmed that party structures remain active, and open dialogue continues as part of efforts to ensure a transparent selection process for credible candidates.
Hon. Omogeye warned against the use of anonymous sources to sow discord within the party, calling such tactics a distraction from the Labour Party’s core mission to deliver meaningful governance and uplift the people of Amuwo Odofin.
The public and state leadership of the Labour Party were urged to disregard the falsehoods and remain focused on the task of strengthening the party at the grassroots.
The statement concluded with a firm assurance that Hon. George Adegeye Olawande (Omogeye) remains committed to fairness, inclusivity, and internal democracy, stating unequivocally that no individual interest can override the collective will of Labour Party members.
