Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has warned President Bola Tinubu against any attempt to rig the August 15 governorship election, saying the people of Osun will resist any effort to undermine their votes.
Addressing supporters on Monday, Adeleke said any attempt to manipulate the election could trigger a political crisis similar to the events that followed the controversial 1983 Ondo State governorship election, which led to widespread unrest.
The governor also alleged that recent attacks on members of the Accord Party left seven people dead, more than 20 injured, and over 60 others detained.
He accused some police officers of aiding APC thugs and called on President Tinubu to ensure security agencies remain neutral and guarantee a free, fair, and credible election.
The APC has rejected allegations of election manipulation and violence, with both parties trading accusations as political tensions continue to rise ahead of the poll.
