The Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II has officially announced the suspension of 67 enigie (dukes) with immediate effect.

The announcement is contained in a statement by the secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor on Saturday.

According to Irabor, the suspension of the dukes was largely due to their rebellious activities to balkanize the throne and the kingdom.

The suspended dukes have since challenged their suspension in court.
