Ronaldo, Benzema: Similar mistake in China – UEFA criticizes Saudi transfer strategy

UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin has criticized Saudi sides’ transfer strategies after Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante followed Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Pro League (SPL).
Ronaldo, 38, became the biggest signing in SPL history in January, joining Al-Nassr on a two-year deal.
The Portugal captain reportedly earns €200 million per year at Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo has been joined by his former Real Madrid teammate Benzema, 35, in Saudi.
Recall that Benzema joined Al Ittihad and is on the brink of linking up with compatriot Kante, 32, at the SPL club.
However, Ceferin reckons Saudi is making a similar mistake as the Chinese Super League and should concentrate their spending on developing their home country’s players.
Cefrin said (via FootballTalkHQ): “Saudi transfer strategy is a mistake for Saudi football. They should invest that money in academies, bring coaches and develop their own players.
“Buying players at the end of their careers is not a system that develops football… Similar mistakes in China.”
