One of Lagos’ most culturally vibrant waterfront communities stepped into the political spotlight on April 8, 2026, as residents, religious faithful, and key stakeholders gathered at Church Street Hall in a show of support for the governorship ambition of Dr. Samuel Mauyon Ajose, SMA Gold.

The well-attended event marked a significant moment in the buildup to the 2027 Lagos governorship race, with the leadership of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) formally endorsing Ajose’s candidacy. The development highlights the growing role of faith-based institutions in shaping political engagement and grassroots mobilization across Nigeria.

Leading the endorsement was the Pastor and Spiritual Head of the CCC Worldwide, Reverend E.M.F. Oshoffa, who spoke extensively on Ajose’s personal qualities, loyalty, and longstanding ties to the church. He also paid tribute to Ajose’s late father, Most Superior Evangelist Abraham Ajose, describing him as a revered figure whose legacy remains deeply rooted within the CCC community.

Presenting Ajose popularly known as SMA Gold as a candidate grounded in both heritage and public service, Oshoffa said the church’s support was based on demonstrated commitment and strong moral values.

“It is in light of these qualities that I wholeheartedly recommend and endorse his political aspiration,” he said, drawing applause from attendees.

Ajose, a native of Badagry and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is widely regarded as a loyal ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aligning closely with the administration’s leadership philosophy. Political analysts note that his rising profile reflects a blend of grassroots appeal and strategic political alignment, positioning him as a potential bridge between local communities and established political structures in Lagos State.

The endorsement event also drew prominent figures within the church hierarchy and beyond. Among them were Most Superior Evangelist Olusegun Olarinde, International Pastor’s Representative; Assistant Most Superior Evangelist Afiz Kiki, Shepherd-in-Charge of the National Headquarters, Makoko; A/M/S/E J.S. Kuti; Senior Evangelist S.A. Sofowora; A/V/S/E Kayode Ajala, Head of Media and Publicity for CCC Worldwide; and M/S/E Solomon Oshoffa, Personal Aide to the Pastor. Baba Ajala was also recognized among notable attendees.

For many present, the gathering represented more than a political endorsement. It symbolized a convergence of faith, legacy, and collective aspiration for future leadership in Lagos.

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Ajose’s growing support base bolstered by institutional backing and grassroots mobilization signals his increasing prominence in the evolving political landscape of the state.
