Teenager docked for allegedly beating up security guard with plank, bottles

An 18-year-old boy, Michael Segun, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly beating up a security guard with planks and bottles.

The unemployed defendant, who resides off the Captain area, Abule Egba, Lagos, was charged with conspiracy and assault.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court on Monday that the offences were committed on June 1 at Larryem Hotel, Abule Egba, Lagos.

Akeem alleged that the defendant invited his friends and brutally assaulted the complainant, Mr Shettima Ibrahim, a hotel security guard, for daring to rebuke him for smoking Indian hemp within the hotel premises.

The prosecutor told the court that the complainant was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until August 2 for mention. (NAN)
