Tension as Lawmaker’s Remarks at APC Deputy Governorship Candidate’s Civic Reception in Badagry Ridicules Commissioner for Youths, LG Chairmen

 

A civic reception organised by youths in honour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship Candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayo James, turned momentarily tense in Badagry, Lagos State, following remarks by a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bonu Sanu Solomon.

The lawmaker, while delivering his goodwill message, described himself as the “John the Baptist for Badagry Federation,” saying he had paved the way for the emergence of the APC deputy governorship candidate.

Hon. Solomon also questioned the developmental impact of political office holders from the Badagry Division, asking what tangible infrastructural projects and achievements had been delivered by commissioners, special advisers, and local government chairmen representing the area.

His comments reportedly drew mixed reactions from the audience, with some attendees expressing the view that the civic reception, organised to celebrate the APC deputy governorship candidate, was not the appropriate forum for raising such issues.

Witnesses said the remarks briefly altered the atmosphere of the event, which was already nearing its conclusion, as some participants voiced their displeasure while others listened quietly.

Observers noted that the comments appeared to be directed at political office holders from the Badagry Division, including the serving Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, as well as the chairmen of Badagry Local Government and Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Despite the brief disruption, the event continued and concluded with other goodwill messages and expressions of support for Princess Damilola Sonayo James ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
