Mikel Arteta has accused match officials in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Brentford of ‘changing the rules’.

According to Arteta, Brentford’s equaliser should have been ruled out for offside.

Arsenal have dropped five points from their last two games, having lost to Everton last weekend and drew with Brentford on Saturday.

Ivan Toney’s header cancelled out Leandro Trossard’s opener as Brentford shared the point with the league leaders.

Manchester City host Aston Villa on Sunday and have the chance to close the gap to just 3 points before travelling to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

“I just looked back and it is offside, yes,” he said.

“The action when you get blocked when you are offside. You cannot block if you are offside.

“The goal was allowed and we dropped two points. But it’s too late.

“You have to apply certain principles in defending and you do that by sticking to the rules, suddenly you change the rules and then you have to change your principles.

“So tell us before so then you don’t hide the line that high…”
