President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate the order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government, citing concerns over the timing of the action ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election.

The directive is understood to have followed concerns that the account restriction could disrupt government activities, delay the payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, and create unnecessary political tension in the lead-up to the August 15 governorship poll.

According to sources familiar with the development, the President emphasized that while anti-corruption agencies must continue to carry out their constitutional responsibilities without interference, such actions should not undermine democratic processes or impede the delivery of essential government services.

The directive is expected to enable the Osun State Government regain access to its accounts and continue the discharge of its financial obligations, including the payment of salaries, pensions and ongoing developmental projects.
