Transfer: Akpom set for Ajax switch after Lens pull out of chase

Chuba Akpom will now join Eredivisie giants, Ajax after Ligue 1 outfit RC Lens pulled out of the move.

Lens agreed a deal with Middlesbrough for the Nigerian-born forward last week but later chose not to proceed with the transfer.

According to The Athletic, Ajax and Middlesbrough reached agreement for the striker on Sunday.

Ajax will cough out £12m plus £2m in add-ons for the player.

Akpom will undergo medicals on Monday (today) and then put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The 27-year-old was top scorer in the Sky Bet Championship last season with 28 goals.

He is yet to make an appearance for Boro this season because of injury.
