Transfer: Barcelona banned from signing new players in January window

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has admitted the club may not be able to sign players during the January transfer window because of LaLiga’s financial fair play rules.
Laporta, however, insisted the club’s accounts are “healthy” again, with an expected income this season of €1.23billion and a budgeted profit of €274 million.
“We had to make some levers, which were economic operations that saved the club from ruin, and now the club is in economic recovery.
“But despite that, according to the rules of financial fair play of the Spanish league, we cannot sign,” Laporta told Spanish news agency EFE.
He added that they were trying to convince LaLiga “to be more flexible”.
Barcelona sold 25% of their domestic television rights and a 49% stake in Barca Studios for over €700 million.
This allowed the Catalans splash over €150million to bring in Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde.
They have helped Barca go top of the Spanish topflight with 37 points, two more than rivals Real Madrid going into the 2022 World Cup break.
