Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has revealed that the Red Devils are looking for offensive players and a striker to sign ahead of the January transfer window.

Ten Hag also refused to be drawn on Man United missing out on PSV Eindhoven forward, Cody Gakpo, who is set to join Liverpool.

The former Ajax coach was thought to be keen to bring Cody to Old Trafford, having discussed the move with the Netherlands World Cup star during the summer transfer window.

But Cody is now poised to join Liverpool in a £44million deal, with Jurgen Klopp’s side moving quickly to wrap up a deal over Christmas.

Speaking after Manchester United’s Premier League 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, Ten Hag told Amazon Prime when asked if he was hopeful of a new signing: “We are always in the market, but it has to match not just the sporting criteria but also the financial criteria.

“We do what we can to bring in that player that we need.”

Asked specifically about Man United’s interest in Gakpo and his imminent move to Liverpool, Ten Hag added: “I don’t talk about individual cases.

“We are looking for offensive players, we are looking for a striker. It would be good because the games are coming. There are so many every third day.”
