A high-stakes meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dissolved when a shouting match broke out in the Oval Office over the Russia-Ukraine war.

The heated argument, which involved Vice President JD Vance, led to the cancellation of the president’s planned press conference and the signing of a deal that would give the U.S. access to Ukraine’s wealth of mineral resources.

The stunning exchange, before cameras and one unlike any other in the Oval Office in modern times, saw Trump and Vice President JD Vance rebuke Zelenskyy for his handling of the war, again falsely blaming the Ukrainian leader for a conflict that began when Russia’s Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion.

Zelenskyy was in Washington to sign an agreement that would give the U.S. access to Ukraine’s mineral resources. But after the Oval Office spat, Trump issued a terse statement claiming Zelenskyy wasn’t ready for peace and the Ukrainian leader left the White House shortly after.

Trump says Zelenskyy ‘not ready for peace’

Minutes after the blow-up between Zelenskyy and Trump, the president released a statement on Truth Social that further bashed the Ukrainian president.

“I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want an advantage; I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace,” he wrote.
