UCL: I’m delighted, he put top performance – Potter hails man of the match
Chelsea manager, Graham Potter has hailed Marc Cucurella after the defender was named man of the match for the Blues’ Champions League round of 16 second-leg 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night.
Potter said he was delighted for Cucurella, adding that the Spaniard put in a top performance during the encounter.
Cucurella was impressive as goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz gave Chelsea the victory over Dortmund.
Chelsea advanced to the quarter-finals on a 2-1 aggregate win after losing 1-0 in the first-leg in Germany in February.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Potter said of Cucurella, “I’m delighted for him [Cucurella]. When you are having a bad time like we’ve had, you accept the criticism, and you have to deal with it. Marc has dealt with it well. We have tried to shield him a little bit in the sense of picking his moment.
“Regardless of his situation, with Benoit not available, I thought he would give us that left-footed balance in the back three, and he put in a top performance.”
