World Cup: Giroud overtakes Thierry Henry as France’s top goalscorer

Olivier Giroud has overtaken Thierry Henry to become France’s all-time top men’s scorer.
The AC Milan striker scored his 52nd goal for Les Bleus as they beat Poland 3-1 in the 2022 World Cup round-of-16 game on Sunday.
Giroud finished off a pass from Kylian Mbappe to give the defending champions the lead shortly before the break.
The 36-year-old had equalled Henry’s record of 51 goals in the 4-1 win against Australia in their opening World Cup Group D fixture.
Giroud became France’s oldest goalscorer in the 2-0 victory over Austria on September 22, which took him to within two goals of the record.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker is now ahead of Henry, who netted 51 times from 123 caps. Antoine Griezmann has 42 goals, Michel Platini has 41 and Karim Benzema has 37.
Giroud made his debut when he was 25 in 2011.
